April 2022 – Quiz – Win £10
This month we are having a quiz. Each day in April a different question will be displayed below. You just need to answer the question. If you manage to answer a question correctly you will receive 2 entries into the draw. If you manage to guess the answer correctly you will receive 2 entries into the draw. If you get it wrong you will receive 1 entry (just for giving it a try). All entries will be pooled at the end of the month and one winner drawn at random.
The competition started on 1st April 2022 and runs until the end of the month. The last question will be shown on 30th April 2022, with the winner being announced here on 1st May 2022. The winner will then have 24 hours to claim their £10 cash prize. If you don’t claim your prize by 11am on 2nd May you will unfortunately lose out. No late claims accepted.
Well Done Marie, Congratulations!
Thank you, Christine.
Congratulations Marie
Thank you!
I am still in shock.
I forgot this country existed
Oh no peeps are going to question this one as well lol, there’s a real King Zog and also a fictitious King Zog but Zog is spelt with an accent King Zøg.
Obviously they meant the REAL King Zog.
I did nearly put Dreamland
I knew todays answer. Not sure why but I knew it but I said it straightway
It’s unreal as I guess it right away also.
Today’s answer is a little tricky because there is an actress that has won more than 5. I went with the one who has won exactly five though.
Yeah, another dodgy question!!! Yawn! 5 isnt the record, 9 is the record!
The answer I found says she was awarded nine too. As a singer and director, maybe they weren’t all for acting though.
Edit – Having read her wikipedia page, she has had worst supporting actress, worst screen couple, worst actress of the decade and worst actress of the century too!
I think its 9 nominations maybe
So why go with the one that won exactly 5 when there’s one with more than 5?
I put Paris Hilton as she has won 5. Madonna has won 9.
I put Madonna from the info I found yesterday, however looking today I have found further info which contradicts the article I read yesterday and says Madge has 9 and Paris has 5
I got it wrong again, i put Pia Zadora. Doh!!
Hi All, This months quiz is certainly causing a few disagreements. For the question on day 25 “What is the largest lake in the world with an animal in its name” the answer should definitely be “Great Bear Lake”. It isn’t a trick question and if you bring up a list of the largest lakes in the world the first one I see with an animal in it’s name (Bear) is this one. I can see what some people are referring to in terms of being able to find the word ‘asp’ with the letters within another word, but that… Read more »
Its been fun, more challenging, i know i have got a few wrong answers this month, but thats part of the game. As part of a challenge we should try and not google. Keep up the good work. 👍😁
I couldn’t help but do the hair thing…. Because I’m worth it!
:o)
For the largest lake in the world question, I gave the answer of the Caspian Sea (which is also known as a lake) and it has an ‘asp’ in the answer so could that be considered correct as it is often considered the largest lake in the world?
That was one of the answers I found, I can’t actually remember what I put now but didn’t put the Caspian sea but I think it should be taken as a correct answer
that is what I put, the answer The Great Bear Lake never came up on the Google search, the biggest was The Caspian Sea.
Ooppss i got this one wrong too, i put Lake Baikal (seals) – not doing well this month but never mind 😄
Me too Wendy
This is what I put as well Wendy🤷🏼♀️
Hi Jane, I did exactly the same, even down to putting Asp as the animal! Please Daniel can you decide if our answers are acceptable Thanks, Christine.
Caspian Sea is the one that comes up on top on Google. However, if you scrolled down a bit there was a link which said ’10 largest lakes in the world’. I clicked on that and took the first one that had an animal in the name. I think it was on nr. 3 or 4 in the list.
Yes there are a couple. The bigger one is a species of animal so I have gone for the smaller one which is the main animal
I didn’t know todays answer and even then I had to do some research around the name.
Could be contentious again?
I agree. I found 2 answers, pretty sure I chose the correct one, however the other one was in a list a bit further down Google
It appears I put the wrong one of the 2 I was thinking of
This one is tricky, hope my answer is correct
Isn’t it Kart?
Oooh this is going to be contentious!!!!
The vast majority of the answers coming in are correct. Good luck everyone! Daniel
Yes it is!!
Todays answer (summer Olympics) is a surprising one, I will be sure to store that little bit of info in my memory, it’s the sort of thing that will come up in a quiz, and I can pretend to be far more knowledgeable than I really am!
Sorry Andrew, i was meant to give you an up vote and accidentally pressed the -, cause i totally agree with you on your comment it sure is a good quiz question . 👍Daniel is there any way you could change my vote as i feel terrible.
Don’t worry about it Wendy, no offence taken. Thank you for explaining though. I don’t usually take any notice of down votes, you will never be able to please all the people all the time.
Thank you for undersatnding Andrew, i pressed the correct one this time. 😁
no word from Daniel yet re: the Arabic word one!!
He probably has other things to do as this is not his day job LOL
I put Jazeira so I guess that is me out.
I put AlJazira which is what Google gave me..
Sounds the same as Jazeera….hope they’re accepted.
I think Daniel will accept all phonetically similar words. As Arabic has its own alphabet, who can say what is the ‘correct’ spelling in English??? He’s always very easy going about spelling – except for anagrams 🤣 🤣
Hi, The spelling isn’t too important. As long as the answer is ‘Al-Jazeera’, ‘Aljazira’, or something similar that will be accepted as the correct answer. Good Luck, Daniel.
I can see the Arabic Word for Island being another contencious one as I can find a few variations.
Yes, I wouldn’t exactly say they are well known. Well known is used very broadly as if the word was well known, no-one would be commenting!
I have put the well known one, which is one word, yes there are a few varients
Actually the word is well known from the news though written differently on the news.
same……arabia being one (as in saudi arabia) which was my answer
I put Arabia too – at least it’s still an entry in the draw!
Me too
Tom or Jake.. was a bit tricky because another male animal is also called a Tom and I never heard about a Jake so had to look it up.
Good question today – will admit I had to look it up!
Not being a gamer, I will admit I had to look this one up.
I see the question related to the Greek word for fire has caused a lot of controversy. Looking back it seems to have been a badly worded question. Maybe should have explained as well known word (as in Pyrotechnics). For that reason and the fact that it could generate multiple answers, I am going to award the full two points on that day to anyone who has attempted to answer (regardless of what answer they put in). Sorry for any confusion. Good luck! Daniel
Thanks, Daniel.
I don’t see a reply saying that Fotia is an acceptable answer to Greek word for fire. Can we have a ruling – you didn’t say Ancient Greek but took the Ancient Greek word Pyro as correct where as Greek Word Fotia should be the correct answer ??
pyro- comes from Greek, where it has the meaning “fire, heat, high temperature”:pyromania, pyrotechnics.
I agree with the others you didn’t say ANCIENT GREEK so FOTIA is Greek for Fire and should be accepted
i also put Fotia
so should φωτιά be accepted
I used Google translate thinking it would give me the normal translation and it still said FOTIA so that is what I put. I don’t speak Greek. How else would I know it if not for Google translate. Hope it’s accepted.
I put Fotia or Pyro as Fotia is modern Greek.
Will my answer be accepted.
i put fotia as that came up multiple times on google search!
I take it that you mean modern Greek, not ancient?
Today’s answer is the one who stayed in the ship. Hehe
Bit obvious that…..
Unless he only floated over the moon and never touched down 🙂
East Pacific Ocean accepted too Daniel? Thanks.
That’s what I put too.
As long as it says Pacific that is fine.
I Don’t think you had to be that Pacific
I like what you did there !!
Lots of otherwise intelligent people say pacific when they mean specific
Hopefully Willis will be accepted as the answer yesterday without having to put Bruce at the beginning
Hi Stuart. Yes, of course. All the best, Daniel.
I did the same, all good.
Well done Laura!
Congratulations to Laura
Awww no egg game this year Daniel?
Seems the chicken left the coop
Hi Wendy. Sorry about that. It sounds as though you were looking forward to that game. I’m going to try and come up with some new ones, just trying to think of some ideas. All the best, Daniel.
Hi Daniel, no its a nice change, i commented last year how it came round quick guessing the Easter eggs. Keep up the good work as always 👍
