On day one, the riddle might be What 7 letter word has thousands of letters in it? (The answer is at the bottom of this post.)
There will be a box to submit your answer for each riddle.
There will be 30 riddles altogether, but each riddle will only show for 24 hours. Try to solve as many as you can!
You will get 1 point for every answer you submit (max one per riddle) and 2 points per correct answer.
The member with the most points will win! (In the event of a tie, a winner will be picked at random.)

The vast majority of people put Q. A few people put H, if that’s the other answer you mean but this isn’t the answer I was looking for. There has already been a discussion over multiple answers.

Shane, I don’t think “an argument” is a “proper” answer as you do get some people who “want” an argument!! and # 21 specifically says “what is it hat NO-ONE WANTS” do you understand what I mean?? I think I said a fight, but I can see reasons why fight, argument and lawsuit might all be wanted. A solicitor for example WOULD want a lawsuit. And a boxer would want a fight…

Just an idea if you do this kind of comp again: we could have a points system where every entry submitted gets 1 entry into a draw. Every correct answer gets an extra entry (max 1 entry pppd)- then have a lottery/lucky dip of all the names in the hat to see who wins. Would stop new players being put off entering if they’re late to the game.
You could be really lucky and win from only one answer, or you could work to get the odds in your favour by entering correctly every day.
Hi Shane, very good point (no pun intended) – I will definitely do that next time. Keeps it more exciting for everyone then, and also doesn’t matter quite as much about getting the wrong answer so if someone finds one a bit difficult, it won’t put them off hopefully. Thanks for the suggestion 🙂
H there, if it were a lucky dip, what would be the point in having any points at all?
Because each point would equate to an entry. So someone who has 30 points has 30 times more chance of winning than the person with 1 point, but at least the person with one point still has a chance to win.

If you have a look a bit further down the page, you’ll see a post from Hazel that says if there are more than one “genuine answer”, i.e. not the exact one she was looking for, you’ll still get full points. Fog seems a genuine answer to me 🙂
Andy – sorry if I’ve not been clear. At my end I have single set answers which members have to guess. They can put more than one answer in their entry if two can be genuinely applied. So in this example, my answer was Shadow, but if someone thought of Shadow and Fog and didn’t know which to put, it would be unfair to penalise them for not being psychic and picking correctly! Hi Hazel, does that mean we can put in more than one answer – I wasn’t sure if the yesterday’s was ‘cold’ or ‘breath’ – I thought it was only one answer per member so I just picked one of them, have I got the wrong end of the stick? When you said you can put both answers, would that be both in the same answer box or sending each answer individually?
Generally it is one answer per person but if there is 2 genuine answers it seems mean to knock a point off for not correctly guessing which answer I was looking for. You can submit your two guesses in the same entry. The one answer rule is more to stop people guessing any old thing and not really trying.
Ah, thanks for clarifying. I was wondering what the situation really was after you said Andrew could submit 2 answers. I suppose, as you say, that if there are more than one reasonably correct answer it’s unfair to penalise someone for not choosing the one you’d thought of.

I’d like to think I’m reasonably loyal but there are limits……I’m away on holiday for the last week and a bit of the competition and both phone reception and Wifi are abysmal in Cornwall, so I’ll probably have to lose out on points for that time because I doubt my wife will let me do a 600 mile round trip each day just to use the Wifi at home 😉

It’s the 7th anniversary of my little sisters death,she died from lung cancer aged 45 & left 7 kids behind,the youngest one was 8, that dreaded C word seems to be happening more and more to people,you’d think by now there would be some sort of cure or treatment,my sister found out in July 2009 and died less than 5 weeks later!? Haze,can you tell me if I’ve entered EVERY days riddle so far? I have got a running total at my end, but if people know they’re a few points behind they might give up altogether which isn’t good for page views. 😕

Calzone, I think it’s still worth a try, a lot of people have only started today and some people who started on the 1st day have missed yesterday’s 🙂
